Posted by Bella at 11:47 PM# Reason number 9,735 why I didn't go to University or College after High School... Because I would be spending my days and nights doing fucking school work! Egad. I am still working on the same freakin thing that I started at noon! I am on page 9 of 35 and on page 13 of 12. Now... the 35 page assignment is worth 40% of my mark and the 12 page assignment is worth 20%. Logically - I should be working on the 35 page one and not on the 12 page due to the amount the assignment is worth but dude... I can't research anymore on that one. It seems like a lost cause to me.I bailed on drinks tonite with the group to eat Stupidstore brand popcorn, drink crystal light and listen to Joseph Arthur while hammering out the next pages of the assignment. Looks like day 2 is rapidly approaching as the clock is 13 minutes to midnight. I don't think I've ever done this before. Right - I'll shush. I'm sure ya'll have way more sobbier stories than mine. I have a whole new appreciation for career students and people like my brother who do nothing but homework. You people are crazy! I'm taking my Event Management Certificate at Mount Royal on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights until the end of June (the 28th to be specific) and it's kicking my ass.Like, today I could be out shopping or walking along the river or taking my dog for a stroll but instead, I'm inside the condo, perched on an awkward stool, John Mayer in the background, with my lactaid latte, attempting to write a research paper ("If it's 35 pages - I won't be disappointed" so says my instructor), a marketing plan ("12 pages shouldn't be out of the question" so says my other instructor) and create a fake event for a group project by 1 p.m. tomorrow. Uh. Isn't adult education suppose to be slightly less work than regular education? Somewhere between working 8 hours a day, going to school and sleeping, I have to fit this in. Richard Branson has come up with a new incentive to reduce carbon: a brilliant music festival hosted in the city that is able to reduce the most carbon. Sure, we've all been told that we clearly need to do this - but the question is how? Just turn off your lights when you leave a room? Walk to the grocery store instead of driving? Is it a great idea? Or just a gimmick to sell his tshirts? Some stuffy ministers don't like it. Maybe they're just ticked they didn't think of it first. Whatever the motive is, I don't think it's half bad. I mean, at least someone is taking initiative to do something to bring the state of the environment to the forefront of people's minds. Not in the latest purchase of mine...After months and months of looking for a new pair of jeans, I finally found a great pair at Aritzia. So, my jeans and I made quick friends... I almost wanted to frame them. But then I noticed something starting: a little hole in the inseam. How could this be?? They're brand new and expensive and sigh. I took them back to the store to see if they could do anything about them. Luckily, they did. They gave me in store credit for my damaged jeans and told me that - Rock and Republic actually sent out a memo to all the stores who carry them saying that the jeans were indeed, not made with the best quality. Well shit. So today I got a new pair made with slightly thicker material. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that nothing happens to these ones. Posted by Bella at 4:53 PM# Calgary Herald Q. Trying to lose some weight around your mid-section? Go gluten & wheat & dairy free! Woot woot! Ok so maybe I'm a little disappointed because my brand new Rock n' Republic jeans are now a little on the large side and my perfectly wonderful work pants from United Colours of Benetton are even larger. But hey, the fabulous white linen pants I picked up 2 years ago will now fit! Found some kick ass cook books on chapters.ca which I purchased. Can't wait to mark all the pages this weekend and cook some stellar gluten-wheat-dairy free-food. The downside is when Scott says "I have a hankering for some calamari - so pick a restaurant we can go to where we can eat calamari'. Rrrrrrright. Or not - the drawback is that I can't eat half of what he eats. No chocolate cookies, no real bread (although I made a fabulous pizza last night with gluten-wheat-dairy-soy free products which was kickass), no cheese... sigh. Groceries are quite a bit more expensive as I've had to change my shopping from Safeway to the organic stores. Not to mention the fact that grocery shopping takes like, 4 times the amount of time it used to now that I have to read all the ingredients...

Probably the saddest thing I have read all day. What the crap!? Belinda has decided not to run for re-election as MP but rather go back to her daddy's company, Magna, to make bigger bucks.You know, I'm pretty sad about this. I was hoping she would end up kicking Dion to the curb and become the big Liberal leader. You know, the almighty powerful one who puts Harper in his place whenever he even sneezes. But you know, maybe it will be good for her. She'll get out of the limelight and be able to keep her personal life to herself without annoyances like McKay getting in the way. Last time Snow Patrol came to town, they were fairly new to people. They had only one real song everyone knew (Run - off their 2005 Spitting Games album) and they charged only $20 a ticket. Embrace, a fairly well-known band in the UK, opened for them. This time, all bets were off. Two opening acts - Silversun Pickup and OK GO blessed the stage. The tickets were double the price, the room was double the capacity it was last time around and there were less teeny-bopper kids who were only there because the lead singer was hot. Woot!Silversun Pickup opened the night with a couple of their tunes. Wasn't really feeling them until the last song, Lazy Eye. The drummer from OK GO and the guitarist from Snow Patrol joined the band on stage for a pretty kickass jam. Let the games begin! OK GO was up next - with their flashy tweed suits, comb-overs and cheeky background, they were going to be a hard act to follow. This band was made famous by their music video, "Here We Go Again" which was rated one of YouTube's best. Lead singer, Damian Kulash had a little camera hooked up to his microphone so at any given time, he could show the audience his nose hairs. Super hot, erm.. or not. "We're in Canada, right? You have gadgets, don't you? Up here? In Canada? Like pocket laptops and cell phones? Gadgets?" The audience roared as they were invited to light up the night with their cell phones - only at the second verse though - during a hot version of Electric Light Orchestra's "Don't Bring Me Down". Before closing out a stellar set with “Here We Go,” they told the crowd that the song had recently been covered by Kidz Bop, a group of kids performing grown-up rock songs. “This is a song that’s basically about waking up with a hangover after a one-night stand and asking yourself, ‘What the hell just happened?’ Now, are there any 8-year-olds that know what that feels like? And the ones that do, do you really want them covering your song?”  After about 20 minutes of set-up for the grand puba, lead singer, Gary Lightbody, graced the stage with his brilliant smile and from there on in - was absolutely the most thankful entertainer I have ever seen come to town. He smiled, he talked to the audience, he remembered that we were in Calgary (which, surprisingly enough, not many bands remember) and made everyone feel at ease for an hour and a half.Their most recognized song, Chasing Cars (which was made extra famous by its play on Grey's Anatomy) was sung about midway through their set. Everyone, and I mean everyone, sang like they were the ones on the stage. Gary stepped back from the mic, and allowed the sweet sound of the audience to sing accapella. He just stood there and took it all in, with a smile similar to that of a kid at Christmas. Almost 20 songs later, they closed the set with Hands Open and thanked the audience for coming and for allowing them to play. We need more concerts like this - ones where you really get your money's worth. Ones where the band loves being there, no matter how long they've been away from home for.

Posted by Bella at 8:06 AM# Woot woot!  Another stellar concert to attend to tonite. As I mentioned wayyyyyy back - I got tickets to the now sold-out Snow Patrol concert tonite at Mac Hall. Not a big fan of the venue but what can you do?Anyways, Silver Sun Pickups and OK GO are opening and then (insert drum roll) Snow Patrol!! Doors open at 6 which means first band at 7, second band at 8, and Snow Patrol at 9. Sigh... and I was hoping for an early evening. Not so stoked about Silver Sun Pickups however. Maybe it's because my beloved radio station has been playing their one song, Lazy Eye, non-stop. Maybe they'll rock tonite and I'll begin to love them. Or, I'll get antsy when they sing it and hide somewhere in the corner with my hands over my ears. Hopefully they're concert will be as good as their first one. Hopefully the concert-goers won't suck as bad as they did at the Fray concert.
Posted by Bella at 7:23 AM# Week two of this. Ok so like I said, Doc told me to stay off gluten, wheat, and dairy. Maybe stay away from soy too while you're at it. Awesome, eh? So what does this mean? A whole lotta yucky food. Not only did I have to opt out of the chocolate cake the staff had for an employee who was leaving, but I had to opt out of gravy on my turkey and stuffing on the side tonite for Easter dinner. Sigh. Found a cute little organic grocery store called Planet Organic today which was pretty exciting actually. Such great looking food... too bad most of it had gluten and wheat... and soy. Ended up finding an aisle of all gluten and wheat free food where I stocked up my basket. Who knew organic shopping was so much money...After some research, I found this cute little cook book called Nearly Normal Cooking for Gluten-Free Eating. The only problem is it's not available on chapters.ca or new on amazon.ca. Regardless, I think if I am about to embark on this wretched lifestyle of flavourless food... I might need to invest in a copy. If you're one of the lucky-duckies who is actually able to eat this stuff, rock on. Eat a pizza for me, with extra cheese. Or maybe a milkshake - with chocolate in it. Annyways - on the positive side - Scott bought me a Starbucks Barista coffee machine which allows me to make my ridiculous drinks at home before I go to work... instead of going out in the middle of the day to spend $4.98 on my tasty bevvie.
